Chandigarh, April 27: Cancer survivors along with Priya Dutt, ex MP and founder chairperson of Nargis Dutt Foundation walked the ramp during a cancer awareness program at Mohali on Saturday.
Among others, Deep Shergill from JEETO Foundation, Dr Vijay Bansal director surgical oncology and Dr Meenakshi Mittal director radiation oncology from Ivy Hospital, Mohanbir Singh chairman Paragon School and Sunaini Sharma were also present during the occasion.
Priya Dutt said that since Foundation formation in 1981 by her father after the death of Nargis Dutt with cancer, it has has worked towards raising awareness about cancer cause as well as helping patients to fight the cancer.
Despite a lot of challenges, our journey to help and support cancer patients is on with full efforts and dedication, she maintained.
During a panel discussion, Dr. Meenakshi talked about the myths relating to cancer patients, especially women.
She said, "The most common myth about lump as certainly a cancer. Almost 8 times out of 10 it is negative but people are scared to get it diagnosed. Some even believe that if they take a sample for biopsy then it can spread which is absolutely incorrect.”
There's also a belief that if the lump is painless then it isn't cancerous, early stage cancer lumps are painless but one must get it checked on time, she informed.
Dr Bansal said, "Awareness is the solution to curb myths. Out of 100 people 98 must be unaware of the truth about cancer. People are not even aware of how the condition develops and then how to cure it.
Meanwhile Bollywood Punjabi singer Sahil Sharma and the students of Paragon School also gave a musical performance during the occasion.
