Chandigarh, August 29: “I had seen my mother’s painful journey while fighting with kidney problems and finally succumbed to it. At that time we could not save her because of the lack of awareness on organ donations. Her death left a big void in our family that could not be filled yet. Personally it hit me very hard to lose my mother like that. So when my elder sister developed kidney problems a year back, I wasted no time donating my kidney to save the life of my mother-like-elder sister Anju Vig (52).
Pardeep Gulati (46) from Model Colony Yamunanagar, who donated his kidney for Anju said that my family including my wife and two children supported me fully in this and encouraged me to donate the kidney.
Anju underwent a successful kidney transplant at Alchemist Hospital, Panchkula by Dr. Neeraj Goyal the chief kidney transplant surgeon who has performed around 600 successful kidney transplants and recently completed 200 kidney transplants at Alchemist.
Pardeep said, “It is the duty of every brother to provide ‘raksha’ to his sister in whatever way they can. My sister Anju who also lives in Yamunanagar is like my mother and i could not afford to lose my mother like sister again. So it was a quick and unanimous decision when doctors asked for kidney transplantation,”
Anju developed kidney problems in 2021 and during the treatment at a local hospital, she was advised for regular dialysis or kidney transplant.
Anju’s husband Satish Kumar Vig who runs a departmental store at Gandhi Nagar in Yamunanagar said that we decided to go for the transplant as my wife's health was not suitable for the regular dialysis.
Pardeep offered to donate his kidney without any second thought despite us asking him to take time to make a decision on it. His love and affection for Anju also encouraged us to go for transplantation despite we were a little afraid and scared initially, asserted Satish.
I am blessed to have a brother like Pardeep who doesn't give a second thought when it comes to the safety of their sister, said Anju, who also has two elder brothers and two younger sisters.
Dr. Neeraj Goyal said,” Post-transplant, Anju is living a normal and healthy life thanks to the timely donation of a kidney by her younger brother. There is an urgent need to spread awareness on donation of body organs in society so that precious lives can be saved on time.”
