Amritsar, August 29: Bariatric Surgery is now available at IVY Hospital, Amritsar. Giving information, Dr Arun K Sharma, a trained minimal access and bariatric surgeon from AIIMS, New Delhi, who recently joined IVY said that obesity and its associated comorbidities can be tackled with surgery now.
He further said that surgeries are done via keyhole or laparoscopic technique where the patient is discharged in one or two days after the surgery.
He stated that obesity is growing very rapidly among Indians and has led to many associated comorbid conditions like diabetes, hypertension and metabolic syndrome. These conditions in turn increase the risk of coronary heart disease and stroke, even in relatively young people, maintained Dr Arun is also trained in handling complex hernia cases.
He also emphasized on increasing awareness among general masses about the advantages of minimal access approach.
