Empowering Safer Roads in India: Addressing Alarming Gaps in Awareness and Compliance

Chandigarh, April 18, 2025 – ParaSafe, a subsidiary of Paracoat, is dedicated to redefining mobility by prioritizing safety across all modes of travel. Committed to revolutionizing road safety tools and embedding road awareness as a standard practice, ParaSafe has undertaken extensive research and published white papers to raise awareness and offer actionable insights for improving safety.

Road safety remains one of India’s most urgent public health and infrastructure challenges. In 2022, road accidents tragically claimed 1.68 lakh lives. Despite significant advancements in vehicle technology and infrastructure, the root causes—ignorance (65%) and weak enforcement of laws (52%)—persist. ParaSafe’s report sheds light on these critical issues, with a particular focus

on the state of road safety awareness and practices in Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.

Rajesh Poddar, CEO of ParaSafe, reflected on the findings:

"Road safety isn’t just about following rules; it’s about saving lives. As an industry leader, it is our responsibility to promote accountability across all stakeholders—government, industry, and citizens. The findings reveal an urgent need to bridge gaps in road safety preparedness. At ParaSafe, we believe that awareness and accessibility to essential safety measures, like first-aid kits and harnesses, can significantly reduce accidents. It’s time we unite to ensure every journey on India’s roads is safer and more secure."

To tackle the road safety crisis and reduce fatalities, a comprehensive approach is essential. Nationwide awareness campaigns targeting schools, hospitals, and media platforms can instill a culture of safety from a young age. Stricter enforcement measures, such as automated compliance systems, higher penalties for violations, and mandatory checks for safety equipment like seat belts and first-aid kits, are critical.

Supportive policies, including subsidies for safety tools such as child seats and emergency kits, can encourage adoption across all segments of society. Education on the Good Samaritan Law and first-aid training will empower citizens to assist accident victims without fear of legal repercussions, fostering a safer environment for all.
