Panchkula, June 23: Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) Shree Shyam Karuna Foundation held its 119th 'Ann Bhandara' or Community Kitchen in the Industrial Area, Phase 1, here. The founder of the NGO and social worker, Amitabh Rungta said that serving food to the needy is considered the most supreme of all social initiatives, so individuals and organizations should come forward to hold community kitchens.Rungta further said that due to the intense summer heat, drinking cool and fresh water is like consuming amrit , or nectar. He said that this is life-giving. For this reason Rungta stressed on the need to offer refrigerated drinking water along with food at community kitchens put up for the benefit of the passers-by.
Rungta said that he is happy that this summer, social workers are doing yeoman's service for humanity by serving 'chabeel' - a cool sweetened beverage made by mixing water or milk with rose syrup to the thirsty travelers. This is commendable work, he said.
The NGO's volunteers Anupama Rungta, Chaitanya Rungta, Pragati, Sukhpal Singh, Suresh Jangra helped in organising the 'bhandara'.
