Chandigarh, September 27, 2025:
The first day of the two-day Special Olympics Sports Festival, organized jointly by Lions Club Chandigarh Central and Special Olympics Bharat, Chandigarh, at the Sector 7 Sports Complex, was filled with excitement and energy. Despite unusually hot weather, 270 participants, accompanied by their parents, took part in various sporting competitions.
On the opening day, a total of six athletic events, including 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, and relay races, were held, showcasing the athletes’ sportsmanship, courage, and determination. Additionally, special dental and homeopathic health check-up camps were organized for the children.
Ten members of Lions Club Chandigarh Central, along with their families, and a 15-member team from Special Olympics Bharat worked with dedication to ensure the event’s success. Lions Club Central President Harish Goyal shared that all final competitions will be held tomorrow, concluding the two-day event with a prize distribution ceremony.
He added that this was the first time the club had organized a sports festival specifically for special children. The Lions Club team, including Sanjeev Gupta (Project Chairman), Satish Bhaskar (Co-Chairman Project), Rohan Mehrotra, Arvind Goyal, Sanjay Sethi, and Gaurav Gupta, worked tirelessly to make the event a success.
Harish Goyal also thanked the Special Olympics Bharat team, including Dilpreet Kaur Sekhon (President), Sapna Rana, Sandy Rana, Priya, and Pradeep Dogra, for their valuable support. Encouraged by the overwhelming response and enthusiasm, Lions Club Chandigarh Central announced that they plan to continue organizing such programs regularly in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat in the future.
