ABVP Wins PUSC President’s Post: Senior BJP Leader Sanjay Tandon Hails Historic Second Consecutive Victory by ABVP

Chandigarh , August 31, 2026: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader  Sanjay Tandon who is also a former President of Chandigarh BJP and currently a National Council Member of the party, today congratulated Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) candidate Ankit Bidhan on his convincing victory in the Panjab University Campus Students’ Council (PUCSC) presidential election, describing the mandate as a reflection of the growing confidence of students in constructive, nationalist and development-oriented leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Notably, Bidhan's victory marks the second consecutive term for ABVP at the top post of the Panjab University students’ council, a first in the university’s history.

Congratulating Bidhan and the entire ABVP team, Sanjay Tandon said, “This historic victory of Ankit Bidhan is a clear endorsement by the students of Panjab University of leadership that is committed to dialogue, development and the genuine interests of the student community. Winning the President’s post for the second consecutive term is a remarkable achievement and reflects the trust that ABVP has earned on the campus.”

Tandon said the result was significant not merely as an electoral victory but as an expression of the aspirations of the younger generation.

“The youth are looking for leadership that listens to them, understands their concerns and provides solutions rather than merely indulging in slogans and confrontation. Ankit Bidhan and his team have received this mandate with the responsibility to work for every student, irrespective of their ideological or organisational affiliation,” he said.

He also congratulated the students of Panjab University for participating in the democratic process and urged the newly elected representatives to make the welfare and development of the university their priority.

“Panjab University is one of the country’s premier institutions and has a rich intellectual and democratic tradition. The newly elected student representatives must rise above narrow politics and work collectively for academic excellence, better campus facilities, research opportunities, employment-oriented education and the overall well-being of students,” Tandon said.

The election also witnessed a significant development before polling, with the Shiromani Akali Dal’s Student Organisation of India (SOI) extending support to ABVP’s Ankit Bidhan after its own presidential candidate’s nomination was rejected. The alliance was projected around student welfare, campus unity and development.

Tandon said the support extended by fellow student organisations demonstrated the importance of unity on issues concerning students.

“The mandate belongs to the students of Panjab University. It should now be transformed into an opportunity to build greater unity on the campus and address genuine student concerns. I am confident that Ankit Bidhan will discharge his responsibilities with humility, dedication and a spirit of service,” he added.

Tandon further congratulated ABVP’s national and Punjab leadership, campus workers and volunteers for their sustained efforts during the election campaign.

“This victory belongs to every student, volunteer and worker who worked tirelessly with discipline and dedication. I extend my best wishes to Ankit Bidhan and his entire team and am confident that they will live up to the expectations of the Panjab University community,” Tandon said.

Bidhan defeated his nearest rival by a margin of more than 500 votes, according to election-result reports. Bidhan, a research scholar at Panjab University and a native of Jind, has been active with ABVP since 2021 and has worked on issues concerning students’ welfare
