Vivek High School, Mohali’s Annual Production: Students stage play ‘Inquilaab’

Chandigarh, May 28, 2025: The stage of Tagore Theatre, Sector 18, came alive with historic fervor as students of Vivek High School (VHS), Mohali, transported the audience to the era of India’s freedom struggle through their annual production ‘Inquilaab’. Performed by 80 students of Class IX, the play was a powerful adaptation of renowned poet, lyricist, actor, and writer Piyush Mishra’s celebrated book ‘Gagan Damama Bajyo’. The 1 hour 40-minute-long performance brought to life the spirit, ideals, and sacrifices of young revolutionaries whose voices continue to echo in contemporary India.
Speaking on the occasion, Vikramjeet Singh Mamik, Administrator, Vivek High Group of Schools, said, “Education should go far beyond the boundaries of textbooks — a belief clearly reflected in this performance. This production demonstrated how, with the right guidance and dedication, school students can bring history to life on a grand stage.”

Dr Amarjyoti Chawla, Principal, VHS, Mohali said, “Theatre, helps students develop creativity, leadership, confidence, and empathy — and ‘Inquilaab’ became a living example of that philosophy.”

Through intense dialogues, impactful acting, and emotionally charged expressions, the students gave flesh and soul to figures like Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, and Sukhdev. The play challenged the audience to reflect on the true meaning of freedom — not merely as a change in governance, but as a call for social transformation. Through powerful dialogue, moving songs, and evocative scenes, ‘Inquilaab’ highlighted that the dream of independence was realized through blood, conviction, and sacrifice.

The students’ compelling performances proved that complex historical themes can be portrayed with maturity and sensitivity. The costumes and set design were thoughtfully curated to reflect the pre-independence era — with earthy tones, vintage props, and realistic lighting that enhanced the authenticity of the production.

The production was directed by Sarthak Narula, an alumnus of the National School of Drama (NSD), known for his work across the national theatre circuit. With rigorous research, rehearsal, and mentorship, he guided the students to create a performance that was both emotionally stirring and historically immersive.

Abhishek Kaushal composed the music, with vocals by Navdeep and Anita Bitalu. Bhaskar handled the sound design, while Sayan Sarkar and Raghav added rhythmic depth with percussion.

‘Inquilaab’ was not just a play — it was an experience that touched hearts and offered a renewed perspective on the meaning of freedom. During the staging of the play the audience responded with repeated applause, appreciating the students’ exceptional stage presence and dramatic talent.
