Over 200 kg Zirapur female patient to undergo bariatric surgery

Chandigarh, May 28: The special arrangements were made to transport a 40 years old overweight woman to Park Hospital, Mohali for weight loss surgery on Wednesday. The patient, weighing over 200 kg was brought in an advanced cardiac life support ambulance from Zirakpur. Over a dozen hospital staff were deployed for safe transportation of the patient from her first floor residence at Zirakpur. The crane was also arranged as a backup in case of any problem to carry the patient.
Dr. Amit Garg, senior associate director of bariatric & metabolic surgery at Park Hospital Mohali, who will perform patients’ bariatric surgery, said that the patient was unable to move. There was a serious danger of developing bed sores and deep vein thrombosis (DVT) .
The patient has a BMI of 84 which is over double of the dangerous level of 40. Due to her being overweight the patient is also suffering from hypertension, sleep apnea and fatty liver health issues also, said Dr. Garg.
We will plan her bariatric surgery after thorough investigations and post bariatric surgery the patient is expected to have less than half of her current weight in a year's time, informed Dr Garg.
