Chandigarh Literary Society observes Father’s Day

Chandigarh, June 17: Fathers are the anchors of a family, the safety net that we, most of the times, tend to take for granted. This Father’s Day, which falls on June 18, let’s take a moment to acknowledge, appreciate and celebrate the invaluable presence of fathers/father figures in our lives. Saturday, June 17, saw the Chandigarh literary society - CLS celebrate Father's Day at the Rotary Club with a panel discussion on the changing role of fathers and a poetry and anecdote sharing session.
“The head of the family, the larger than life person and persona, authoritarian, at times inscrutable, intimidating figure, the (new age) Indian father, if not a long way, has come halfway, open to a warm hug, an emotional intervention, a hearty laugh and mindful conversation. He is learning to co-parent, jump in for diaper duty, midnight feeding, schooling, and even dishwashing! Like they say, he is sharing the load, trying and learning. Being a father and fatherhood is a beautiful journey, and we applaud those who make it worth the while,” remarked the chairperson of the society Dr. Sumita Misra. With women becoming more financially independent and increasingly joining the workforce, the traditional roles of an Indian family structure are evolving. It maybe a small percentage, but in age of working parents and partners, fathers are going beyond from just being the breadwinners and the disciplinarians in a household. The new age dad is shedding the male ego and gladly taking paternity leave. In the spirit of co-parenting and co-existence, he is turning into a more hands on individual, stepping up in raising their children.
The occasion saw a panel discussion highlighting how fathers have embraced a more involved and friendly role, shedding their stoic, silent and disciplinary image. Reeta Rana held the discussion with Dr Aditya Rattan, Sandeep Sud, Col Navdeep Multani and Jupinderjit. There was a Poetry and anecdote sharing session too in which Ms. Alka Kansra, Dr. Suneet Madan, Ms. Harpreet Baweja, Ms. Sarika Dhupar, Ms. Staffy Bhateja, Dr. Deviyani Singh, Ms. Satyavati Acharya, Ms. Rekha Mittal, Dr. Puneet Girdhar, Mr. Lalit, Ms. Shally Vij & many more took part. The session was anchored by Lily Swarn.
