Chandigarh, Mar 10,2024:Gurnoor Singh Kanda, Chairman, SOI (Student Organization of India) - 'Vicky Middukhera Team’, Panjab University, has broken his indefinite fast after an assurance from PU authorities that it will look into the resolution of issues raised by him on behalf of SOI.
It is important to mention here that whether students are from any college or PU, if they fall ill during examinations and are not able to attend the exam, they have to pay a medical fee; after paying this medical fee, the student can take his or her examination exactly after 1 month. However, this rule was amended by the university, and according to the new rule now the student can pay the medical fee only once in 3-years during attending his or her course and that too in the final year. The exam can also be taken only in the final year.
Kanda was sitting on an indefinite hunger strike outside the Administrative Block of Panjab University to demand the cancellation of the system of charging medical fees and allowing the continuation of examinations in the next academic year for students who have already deposited medical fees.
“We have decided to call off the hunger strike as the Panjab University authorities have agreed to form a fast-track time bound committee with student representation, to formulate a decision on our demands," said Kanda.
