Ludhiana : DMCH Cancer Care Centre, Ludhiana in collaboration with American Oncology Institute (AOI) gave a new lease of life to a 38-year-old male suffering from Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) in the left middle ear with a recurrence. The patient had previously undergone three surgical interventions in the last six months due to lesions in the left ear, but the disease persisted and recurred. The patient's relapse was marked by local recurrence, severe pain in the left ear, purulent discharge, and a profound hearing loss in the same ear.
Under the expert guidance of Dr Ritu Aggarwal, he underwent a thorough clinical evaluation and was recommended for radiotherapy, an approach that aimed to halt the cancer's progress and improve the patient's quality of life.

Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin is a type of cancer that starts as a growth of cells on the skin. These tumors can spread to the inside of the ear but rarely other parts of the body. Squamous cell cancer grows deeper into the body and is more likely to spread. If the tumor grows into the temporal bone, it can cause hearing loss, dizziness, and facial paralysis.
