The representatives of these well known organisations received the awards as the founders  could not be present physically due to some pressing personal engagements. SP Singh Oberoi, Founder and Director, Sarbat Da Bhala Charitable Trust, Punjab was also felicitated and his award was received by a representative.

From Art of living, Madhu Pandit, State Media Coordinator; Komal Singvi, State Teacher Coordinator and Amita Bawa, Apex Member  received the award on behalf of Sri Sri Ravishankar.

The Green Conclave on ‘Mission Green Punjab, Clean Punjab’ in the run up to the World Environment Day saw the participation of a number of experts, who stressed the need for leaving nothing unturned to save the environment.

Jagjit Singh Majha, Director General, GNF and who is also President, CREDAI (Confederation of Real Estate Developers Association of India), Punjab, said that Punjab must take the lead in showing the green and clean example to others and save Mother Earth. “'Only One Earth'' is the slogan of this year’s World Environment Day. I earnestly call upon all to go green to save the earth for a bright future,” said Majha.

Padma Shri Balbir Singh Seechewal, who has spearheaded a campaign to save rivers in Punjab from pollution, said that Nature is the key to human survival which must be protected. “It is our collective responsibility to make our environment more resilient,” he said.

Baba Lakha Singh of Jan Kalyan Charitable Trust Gurdwara Nanaksar, Sector 26, Chandigarh, stressed the need for mass awareness about the environment.

Earlier a panel discussion moderated by Jagjit Singh Majha, on ‘Sustainable Development’ was held where experts batted for green development.

Jeet Kumar Gupta, President, Indian Green Buildings Council (IGBC), said that green buildings are going to be the norm and realty sector players should adopt green practices forthwith. Sanjay Sharma, President, Concrete Association, said that an ecosystem needs to be put in place to realize the goal of sustainable development.

It is worth stating that all builders and developers in New Chandigarh have resolved to adopt steel slag roads, a new technique, which is environmentally friendly. It will replace the use of sand and concrete. Sand mining and concrete aggregates are posing serious threats to the ecological balance.

An Eco-Warriors Award ceremony was also held during the event in which those who worked tirelessly to save the environment were given saplings.

During the occasion, newsletters Eco Times and New Chandigarh Express were also released by the NGO.
