Sargam Society & Aryans Group organised Shiv Batalvi Night in Chandigarh

 Chandigarh, May 6th:To pay a tribute to Shiv Kumar Batalvi on his 50th Death Anniversary, Sargam Society of Indian Music & Arts (Regd), Mohali & Aryans Group of Colleges, Rajpura, Near Chandigarh organized a Musical Program on 6th May, 2023, Saturday in Randhawa Auditorium, Sec 16, Chandigarh. The event commenced with the lamp lighting ceremony & mementos were presented to Singers during felicitation ceremony.
The event was graced by S. Gulzar Sandhu, a close associate of Shiv Kumar Batalvi as Chief Guest while Rita Juneja, DGM, Head, PNB, Mohali; Deepak Manmohan, Former Director, World Punjabi Centre; MP Gupta, Music Connoisseur were Guests of Honour. Sh. Ashwani Garg, Chairman, SVIET, Banur presided over. 
Gulzar while paying tribute mentioned that the poetry of Shiv Kumar Batalvi is a heritage equal to that of the great Punjab poets of the past. His poems are embraced and loved by all Punjabi people throughout the world and have been sung by qawwals, pop stars, folksters and ghazal maestros. Considered Punjab’s first modern poet, he brought a sense of existential uncertainty and conflict into his work.

Dr. Anshu Kataria, President, Sargam Society & Chairman, Aryans Group while paying tribute to Batalavi Ji said that Younger generations will always be inspired from his contributions towards poetry he made to our present-day playlists & his cultural relevance remains strong in his homeland Majha.

RD Kailey, a trained singer mentioned that fifty years after his passing, people still remain spellbound by his talent and craft that gave multiple dimensions to the linguistic references found in Punjabi music. He remained the eternal themes of poetry: love, land , the seasons.

Today's program started with Kailey singing "SheharTere TarkalaanDhaliyan", followed by "Ajj Asiin Tere Shehar Haan Aaye".
Thereafter, Sucheta Mukhopadhyaya, a Begali speaking lady, first time sang in Punjabi "Umran De Sarwar, Sahwaan Da Paani" and "Jaach Mainu Aa Gayi Gham Khaan Di"
"Tainu Deyan Hanjhuaan Da Bhada", 

Another upcoming Vikramjit Singh Sandhu presenred "Jad Vi Tera Deedar  Hovega" and Ikk udi Jida Naa Muhabbat".  Minakshi Sharma a music teacher sang "Ik Meri Akkh Kaashni" and "Jad Pain Kapahiin Phull Ve". in folk style. Rajesh Sharma sang "Asaan Taan Joban Rutte Marna" and "Mainu Tera Shabaab Lae Baitha". 

Kailey repeated his appearance and regaled audience with popular songs.
"Kujh Rukh Mainu Putt Lagde Ne", "Sajjan SaanuTaindiyaan Galodiyaan", "Maahi Mera Sher Jaapda" and mesmerized the audience.

Out of above 14 songs, the tunes of 12 songs were composed by RD Kailey.

The Musicians in the event were Gurvinder Singh Lovely, Sarbjit Singh Shibbu, Manish Sachdeva, Arun Mankotia. The Program Moderator was Goverdhan Gabbi. On the occasion, Sh. Kaveesh Kailey, General Secretary, Sargam Society & other office bearers were present beside many dignitaries amongst the audience.
