Chandigarh, October 16, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon has thanked Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Gulab Chand Kataria & Chandigarh Administration for taking an important decision concerning Chandigarh residents by permitting rooftop solar photovoltaic (SPV) installations on Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) dwelling units without prior approval or a No Objection Certificate (NOC). He also complimented the UT Administrator and the Chandigarh Administration for providing age-related relaxations and other benefits to former 'Agniveers' in Chandigarh Police recruitment.
Tandon said that he had consistently been taking up a range of civic, administrative and public welfare issues concerning Chandigarh with the Administrator.
“I have been raising multiple issues affecting Chandigarh and its residents with the Administrator from time to time. I sincerely thank Shri Kataria for taking my requests and concerns seriously and giving them due consideration. His attention to issues brought to his notice is encouraging, and I look forward to continued engagement with the Chandigarh Administration to address public grievances and work towards the welfare of city residents,” Tandon said.
Welcoming the decision on rooftop solar installations, Tandon said in a statement that it would simplify the process for CHB allottees seeking to adopt clean energy and avail the benefits of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
“I sincerely thank Punjab Governor and UT Administrator Shri Gulab Chand Kataria Ji for approving this important relief for CHB allottees. Removing the requirement for prior permission or an NOC from the Housing Board will make rooftop solar installations more accessible and hassle-free for residents. This will also encourage the adoption of renewable energy and help households benefit from the government’s solar energy initiative,” Tandon said.
He also welcomed the provisions offering age relaxation and other concessions to former Agniveers in Chandigarh Police recruitment. Under the announced provisions, former Agniveers are to receive a three-year relaxation in the upper age limit, while candidates from the first batch will be eligible for a five-year relaxation. Benefits have also been provided in the written examination and Physical Efficiency Test (PET), as per the applicable recruitment provisions.
Notably, the decision on rooftop solar installations was conveyed through an order issued by H Rajesh Prasad, IAS, Chairman of the Chandigarh Housing Board, with the approval of the UT Administrator. The order permits CHB allottees to install rooftop solar systems in accordance with the guidelines of the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana through CREST (Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science & Technology Promotion Society). It supersedes previous orders on the matter and has come into immediate effect.
