Chandigarh: To mark World Breast Cancer Awareness Month, a senior panel of oncologists from Park Hospital, Mohali addressed a press conference today, highlighting critical insights and the urgent need for early screening among Indian women.
Addressing the media, Dr. Sandeep Kukkar, Director of Medical Oncology, stated that breast cancer has emerged as the most common cancer among women. "Globally, breast cancer impacts 2.1 million women every year, with India seeing nearly 1.90 lakh new cases annually," said Dr. Kukkar.
Dr. (Brig) Harinder Pal Singh, Director of Medical Oncology, noted that the disease is increasingly affecting younger age groups. "Over 60 percent of breast cancer patients in India are diagnosed in advanced stages, mainly due to low screening rates and social stigma," he added.
Dr. Vijay Jagad, Senior Consultant in Surgical Oncology, shared: "Breast cancer accounts for 27% of all female cancers in India. Simple techniques like breast self-examination and mammography help detect it early, yet surveys show that 75% of Indian women shy away from screening."
Dr. Aman Kumar Vaid and Dr. Nitin Balachander, Consultants in Radiation Oncology, reiterated that early-stage diagnosis significantly improves treatment outcomes.
To mark Awareness Month, Ashish Chadha, Group CEO-North, Park Hospitals, announced that Park Hospital Mohali is offering Mammography at a 50% discount and PET CT scans at ₹10,999 until October 31.
