Chandigarh, October 10: Residents of Sector 25, particularly women, staged a protest against Chandigarh MP Manish Tewari over the non-fulfilment of an election promise to provide Rs 8500 per month - or around Rs 1 lakh per annum, in financial assistance to women.
The protesters who were carrying anti Manish Tewari placards alleged that more than two years after the promise was reportedly made during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, they were still waiting for the promised amount.
"The women questioned that Tewari had been an MP for over two years and still the commitment had not been fulfilled. The demonstrators sought clarity on when the financial assistance would be provided," said Sumeet, Chief Advisor, Safai Karamchari Union, who stood in support of the protestors.
The protesting women demanded accountability from the sitting MP and urged him to clarify the status of the promise. They maintained that assurances made during election campaigns should be followed by concrete action and called for a clear response on the issue.
