Chandigarh, October 6: A delegation of employees of Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, led by Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) Vice President Digvijay, met Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon and apprised him of the issues concerning the employees. The BMS was also represented by Mr. Talif . The delegation informed Tandon about issues being faced by around 600 employees working as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) at GMCH-32.
Sanjay Tandon said that the delegation informed him that the GMCH employees were appointed as attendants but are currently designated and paid as MTS personnel. They demanded that their designation be changed to Attendant. The delegation also said that their pay should be at par with employees at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, who have the same job profile as them. It was pointed out by them that employees performing the same job at PGIMER are designated as Attendants and receive a pay scale approximately Rs 3,000 higher than their counterparts at GMCH-32.
“I have spoken to Chandigarh Home Secretary Mandeep Brar and urged him to ensure that the employees’ concerns are examined and resolved at the earliest . It is a matter of concern that employees performing the same job are being treated differently in terms of designation and pay. If the same category of employees at PGIMER are designated as Attendants and are receiving a higher pay scale, the disparity needs to be examined sympathetically and addressed in a fair and time-bound manner,” Tandon said.
Tandon said that the employees had been performing their duties with dedication and sincerity and deserved a fair consideration of their legitimate demands.
“The demand of the GMCH-32 employees is not merely about a change in nomenclature, they are seeking parity with their counterparts performing the same duties at PGIMER. I have taken up the matter with the Chandigarh Home Secretary and urged the Administration to find an appropriate and early solution,” Tandon said.
Tandon assured the delegation that he would continue to pursue the matter with the concerned authorities so that the genuine concerns of the employees could be resolved.
