Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon meets PU VC, urges her to ensure direct salary payment to MTS workers

Chandigarh, October 1: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon  met Panjab University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Meenakshi Goyal and discussed the issue of delayed salary payments to Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and other contractual workers at the university.

During the meeting, Tandon urged the Vice-Chancellor to adopt a mechanism under which the commission and GST payable to the contractor are released directly to the contractor, while the salary component is credited directly into the bank accounts of the workers providing services at the university.

Tandon said that delays in payments were causing hardship to workers who depend on their monthly salaries for their day-to-day needs.

“The MTS workers and other contractual employees should not have to suffer because of delays in the payment of GST or other issues at the contractor’s end. Their salaries should reach their accounts on time, preferably by the 7th of every month,” said Tandon.

He said the proposed mechanism would ensure that workers receive their wages directly from Punjab University without unnecessary delays.

“I requested the Vice-Chancellor to consider a direct-payment mechanism whereby the contractor receives the commission and GST, while the salary of every contractual worker is credited directly into the worker’s bank account. This can help ensure timely payment and provide financial security to employees who depend on their monthly wages,” Tandon said.

Tandon said the Vice-Chancellor responded positively to the suggestion and expressed hope that the mechanism would be implemented at the earliest.

“The Vice-Chancellor has agreed to consider this suggestion. I hope that the university will implement the mechanism so that every contractual worker gets their salary directly and on time, without being affected by delays at the contractor’s end,” he added.
