Chandigarh, August 17: Akshay Sharma has been elected as the new President of the prestigious Punjab Wrestling Association. During the Association’s meeting, outgoing President Raman Kumar proposed his name, which was unanimously approved by the members.
On this occasion, the newly elected President Akshay Sharma — a sports enthusiast and an active BJP leader from Amritsar — expressed gratitude to the Association’s Lifetime President, Olympian Kartar Singh (IPS), former President Raman Kumar, and General Secretary Shahbaz Singh. He said that it is a matter of great pride for him to serve the wrestlers of Punjab and the Association.
Akshay Sharma announced that his top priority will be to ensure lifetime health insurance coverage for all wrestlers. “Our wrestlers work hard and bring glory to Punjab and the nation. Securing their health and future is our responsibility,” he said.
He further added that during his student days, he witnessed many wrestlers missing out on competitions because they could not afford entry or travel fees. His goal is to ensure that no wrestler is left behind due to financial constraints. He affirmed that every possible effort will be made to provide adequate financial support so that wrestlers can perform to their full potential.
