Mohali : Famous Punjabi singer Sunanda Sharma, known for her mesmerizing voice and superhit songs Duji Vaar Pyar, Mummy Nu Pasand, andUdh Di Phiran, turned an environmental champion on Sunday as she planted 4,100 saplings in Nabipur village for Rounglass Foundation’s The
Billion Tree Project. Sharma interacted with the Roundglass Foundation team on the ground and talked about why she had come to support The Billion Tree Project: “I feel strongly about environmental issues and always look for opportunities to support initiatives focused on addressing Punjab’s environmental challenges. I am really happy that I could come today and plant these trees, and I look forward to supporting this cause in the future as well by joining hands with Roundglass Foundation to plant many more trees in Punjab.” Sharma is the latest celebrity to support Roundglass Foundation’s The Billion Tree Project (TBTP),which aims to plant 1 billion or 100 crore native trees in Punjab. Diljit Dosanjh, Neeru Bajwa, Raageshwari, Babbu Mann, Gurpreet Ghuggi, and Jasmine Bhasin are some of the other big names from Punjab’s and India’s entertainment industry that have time and again extended their support for this ambitious project. More than 31 lakh native trees in Punjabhave been planted under TBTP, covering 980 acres of barren and fallow land—an area equal to 742 football fields.
Being native species, these trees have a remarkable survival rate of nearly 90% and have flourished into thriving mini forests, teeming with birds, butterflies, insects, and other lifeforms crucial to Punjab’s biodiversity. These mini forests recharge groundwater, improve air quality by reducing pollution, and become natural allies in the fight against climate change.
