Punjab Finance Minister Sardar Harpal Singh Cheema graced NABARD 44th Foundation Day

Chandigarh, 22 July, 2025: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) Punjab Regional Office celebrated its 44th Foundation Day, reaffirming its commitment to rural transformation, agricultural innovation, and financial inclusion across the state.

The event was graced by Hon’ble Finance Minister, Government of Punjab, Shri Harpal Singh Cheema as chief guest. Senior officials from the State Government, Cooperation Department, RBI, Banks, PACS and Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) also participated.

In his address, Shri Vinod Kumar Arya, Chief General Manager, NABARD Punjab Regional Office briefed about the journey of NABARD since inception.   Shri Arya said: “NABARD has been a trusted development partner in Punjab’s journey of rural progress. Our efforts in supporting agri-infrastructure, strengthening cooperatives, promoting livelihood interventions have empowered farmers and rural entrepreneurs. Going forward, we will intensify our focus on climate-resilient agriculture, digital transformation including e-KCC and inclusive development, with empowerment of cooperatives under the umbrella initiative of Ministry of Cooperation of Sahakar Se Samridhi, coinciding with the International Year of Cooperatives with theme “Cooperatives for Sustainable Future.”

Delivering the keynote address, Hon’ble Finance Minister, Government of Punjab applauded the role played by NABARD in different sectors (viz. irrigation, education, health, rural connectivity and basic infrastructure in agriculture) of the economy of India particularly the State of Punjab.  He further added that NABARD’s contribution to Punjab’s rural development is invaluable. From financing critical infrastructure at concessional rate of interest to nurturing grassroots institutions like SHGs and FPOs, NABARD has consistently supported the State Government’s efforts.  He also highlighted the diverse activities being undertaken by Lambra Kangri MPCS and shared his vision of making all the PACS of Punjab profitable and sustainable. He emphasized on continued collaboration with NABARD in areas like sustainable agriculture, water conservation, and rural enterprise promotion. 

The celebrations included felicitation of PACS, Cooperative Banks, FPOs, OFPO showcasing NABARD supported success stories. The event also provided a platform for dialogue among stakeholders to align strategies for accelerating rural growth.

As NABARD enters its 44th year of service, the Punjab Regional Office reiterated its dedication to working in synergy with the State Government and development partners to ensure a resilient and vibrant rural Punjab.
