Chandigarh, November 8, 2024 : The 10th edition of the prestigious Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy continued to dazzle at the Indoor Basketball Court, GMADA Sports Complex in Mohali on its third day. The day was packed with thrilling matches as schools from across the region battled for glory in various age categories.
In a closely contested match in the U-14 boys’ category, LPS Mohali emerged victorious over St. Anee’s Chandigarh, winning 18-11. Despite the loss, Ridhaan of St. Anee’s stole the spotlight, scoring a remarkable 20 points to become the top scorer. In another match played in the same age group, Vivek High School Chandigarh delivered an overwhelming performance, crushing The British School Mohali 39-4. Kabir led the charge with 10 points, securing his place as the top scorer. Meanwhile, Shemrock School Mohali dominated Smart Wonder School Mohali, securing a commanding 28-10 victory. Navshaan from Shemrock shone with 12 points, earning the top scorer accolade.
In the U-14 girls’ category, Smart Wonder School Mohali delivered a dominant performance against Amity International Mohali, winning 27-4. Kudrat led her team to victory with 8 points. In another U-14 girls’ encounter, Sacred Heart Chandigarh triumphed over KV High Ground School, emerging 52-29 winners. Smaya’s brilliant 19-point performance secured her the title of top scorer. Meanwhile, LPS Mohali defeated St. Peter’s School Chandigarh, 25-10. Simran with 8 points earned the top scorer accolade.
In the U-17 girls’ category, Vivek High School Mohali outclassed Shishu Niketan Mohali, 18-9 points. Japji from the winning team scored 8 points, leading her team to victory and earned the top scorer title.
The next match was a thriller, as Shemrock School Mohali edged past Smart Wonder School Mohali, 27-24, with Harshveer contributing 12 points to lead her team to victory. In another interesting twist, YPS Mohali advanced when Mind Tree Kharar was declared forfeited.
In a closely fought U-12 boys’ contest, Police Public School triumphed over KV High Ground Chandigarh 24-14, with Gurjot leading the charge with 15 points. Vivek High School Mohali had an overwhelming win over DPS Chandigarh, sealing a 15-1 victory, with Jai Pratap contributing 3 points as the top scorer.
In the U-12 girls’ division, LPS Mohali emerged as the clear winners against Amity International Mohali, winning 29-10. Nikunj, with 11 points, was named the top scorer. In another exciting match, Manav Mangal Mohali dominated Vivek High School Mohali 33-16, with Amreen leading the charge with an impressive 20 points.
It’s pertinent to mention that over 70 teams from top schools in the region are participating in the event. This prestigious basketball tournament has been a display of sheer talent and determination. The action-packed event, which kicked off on November 6, 2024, will continue until November 13, promising more exhilarating matches as the competition heats up.
