Vivek High School U-12 and U-17 Teams Advance to Finals of the 10th Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy

Chandigarh, November 11, 2024 :  As the 10th edition of the Sardar Bhagwant Singh Memorial Basketball Trophy draws closer to its grand finale, the competition has reached new heights of intensity. Day 5 of the tournament witnessed a series of thrilling and closely contested matches, keeping spectators on the edge of their seats as top teams battled for supremacy.

In a nail-biting U-17 boys quarterfinal, St. Joseph’s School, Chandigarh narrowly defeated YPS, Mohali with a tense 50-47 victory. Navneet was the standout performer, scoring an impressive 25 points and leading his team to victory. For YPS, Keeratvir fought hard, contributing 16 points in a valiant effort.

In another U-17 boys quarterfinal, LPS, Mohali delivered a dominant performance, overwhelming Shemrock School, Mohali 32-10. Gurparteek was the top scorer for LPS with 14 points, while Jayant managed 5 points for Shemrock.

Meanwhile, in the U-17 girls semifinal, Vivek High School, Chandigarh defeated LPS, Mohali with a commanding 31-12 win. Kashvi from the winning side scored 11 points, while Harneet from LPS scored 6.

In the U-14 boys quarterfinals, the action was just as thrilling. YPS, Mohali edged out Shemrock School, Mohali 29-27 in a close contest, with Atharva contributing 14 points to his team's victory. On the other side, Gurman also scored 14 for Shemrock. In another exciting encounter, KV High Ground School, Chandigarh triumphed over LPS, Mohali in a hard-fought 44-42 win. Ankush led KV High with 17 points, while Prajwal scored 20 for LPS.

The U-14 girls quarterfinal saw Shemrock School, Mohali defeat Delhi Public School, Chandigarh 31-24, with Anshika playing a starring role, scoring 23 points. Vanshika contributed 8 points for DPS. In the U-14 girls semifinal, Sacred Heart School, Chandigarh proved dominant, defeating YPS, Mohali 41-29 to secure a spot in the final. Smaya scored 18 from the winning team, while Avantika scored 20 for the losing team.

In the U-12 boys semifinal, Police Public School, Mohali showed their strength with a 25-10 win over YPS, Mohali. Gurjot was the top scorer with 13 points, while Digvijay added 6 for YPS. In another semifinal, Vivek High School, Mohali outclassed Shemrock School, Mohali 19-10, with Ajitesh leading with 8 points.

The U-12 girls semifinal saw St. Anne’s School, Chandigarh secure a narrow 10-4 victory over YPS, Mohali. Ryka and Rehmat were the top scorers for their respective teams, each contributing 6 points. In another U-12 girls semifinal, LPS, Mohali defeated Manav Mangal Smart School, Mohali with a commanding 19-6 win. Nikunj led LPS with 11 points, while Mehroop scored 4 for Manav Mangal.

With over 70 teams from top schools across the region competing, this year’s tournament has been a spectacular display of basketball talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship. The action began on November 6, 2024, and the much-awaited finale is set to take place on November 13, 2024.

As the teams inch closer to ultimate victory, all eyes are now on the grand finale, where the region’s best young basketball players will battle it out for the prestigious trophy.
