Outcomes of SPIEF 2024 roadshows in India

Chandigarh, January 4, 2023: A series of events in Delhi, Mumbai, and Bangalore were conducted as part of the preparations for SPIEF 2024. The meetings delved into the prospects for the development of Russian-Indian economic and humanitarian partnership relations in the context of the Forum. Over 150 representatives from leading companies and media in the Republic of India participated in these offsite sessions.

"In 2023, one of the most numerous delegations at SPIEF was from the Republic of India, and the past series of offsite events showed that the trend of growing mutual business interest continues," noted Alexey Valkov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and SPIEF Director.

The key event was the session "SPIEF 2024: Business Cooperation to Improve the Quality of Life," held on December 13 in Mumbai. Speakers included Alexey Surovtsev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai; Manpreet Singh, president of the Indian Chamber of International Business; Alexey Valkov, Deputy CEO of the Roscongress Foundation and SPIEF; Elena Remizova, Vice-Consul, Head of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Mumbai; Ashish Khemka, Managing Director of Khemka Global; and Dr. Vijay Kalantri, President of All India Association of Industries (AIAI).

Participants discussed the roles of the financial, industrial, and humanitarian sectors in the innovative development of society and the improvement of the quality of life. During the event, speakers assessed their contribution to the long-term partnership between Russia and India and discussed the prospects of Russian-Indian cooperation in the new conditions of the global world.

"Interstate relations between Russia and India are based on mutual trust and respect. The Russian-Indian business community and the realization of joint strategic projects are of great importance in expanding cooperation. Today, we see a clear interest of both Russian companies in entering the Indian market and the desire of Indian businesses to occupy their promising niche in the Russian economy. The potential for mutually beneficial cooperation is extremely high, and our task is to support the necessary conditions for its realization," noted Alexey Surovtsev, Consul General of the Russian Federation in Mumbai.

Elena Remizova, Vice-Consul and Head of the Russian Centre for Science and Culture in Mumbai, highlighted a great example of cooperation in the humanitarian sphere between Russia and India—the development of partnerships in the film industry. More and more Russian and Indian companies are considering options for joint movie production. Over the past two years, Indian producers' interest in Russia has increased, while India maintains a historically and traditionally high level of public interest in Russian cinema. This situation contributes to the continuation of the policy of expanding intercultural ties between Russia and India.

"Cooperation between the Russian-Indian industrial complex is, first of all, a mutually beneficial exchange of technologies. We see great potential for the development of partnerships between Russian and Indian industrial companies. Today, it is important to adopt experience not only in the approach to doing business and process automation but also in the issues of social support for the population of the territories where industrial companies operate. One of the platforms for discussion and cooperation between Russian-Indian industrial business is the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, which is annually attended by industry leaders and key regional players," said Dr. Vijay Kalantri, President ofAll India Association of Industrialists (AIAI).

The panelists also discussed logistical opportunities for expanding relations between the Russian Federation and India. In today's conditions, there are two main logistical routes: the Delhi-Moscow air corridor and maritime transportation corridors through which ships deliver trade cargo to the ports of Vladivostok, Novosibirsk, and St. Petersburg.

"Building the India-Russia communication space allows our countries to create integrated business projects that bring mutual benefits to each party. This position serves not only to strengthen relations but also to significantly promote Indian manufacturers. SPIEF opportunities allow us to expand interstate contacts, increase trade volumes, and strengthen the strategic nature of Russian-Indian relations," commented Manpreet Singh, president of the Indian Chamber of International Business.

The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum is an annual business event in the economic sphere held in St. Petersburg since 1997. The Forum's participants include CEOs of major Russian and foreign companies, heads of state and political leaders, government chairmen, ministers, and heads of medium and small businesses. SPIEF 2024 will be held on June 5-8.
