advanced LINAC, delivers first precision radiotherapy treatment

Chandigarh: Livasa Hospital Mohali has successfully commissioned its state-of-the-art Linear Accelerator (LINAC) integrated with the latest Monaco Treatment Planning System (Version 6.2.2) and treated its first cancer patient, marking a significant milestone in advanced cancer care for the region.
The advanced treatment planning system enables the creation of highly accurate and efficient radiotherapy plans for complex techniques such as IMRT, VMAT, SRS and SBRT, ensuring precision-driven, personalized radiation treatment aligned with global best practices.
The new LINAC enables delivery of the latest precision radiotherapy techniques, which use advanced imaging and computer-guided dose modulation to precisely target tumors while sparing surrounding healthy tissues. This allows radiation to be delivered with exceptional accuracy, leading to better tumor control, fewer side effects, shorter treatment times in many cases and an overall improvement in patients’ quality of life.
The Radiation Oncology services at Livasa Hospital Mohali are led by Dr. Meenakshi Mittal, Director – Radiation Oncology, and Dr. Parneet Singh, Senior Consultant – Radiation Oncology, supported by a dedicated and experienced multidisciplinary oncology team. The department places strong emphasis on advanced techniques such as IGRT, VMAT, SRS and SBRT, along with regular Tumor Board meetings that bring together specialists across disciplines to personalize treatment strategies, improve outcomes and minimize treatment-related toxicity.
Commenting on the development, Anurag Yadav, CEO, Livasa Hospitals, said, “The commissioning of the LINAC at Livasa Hospital Mohali underscores our commitment to making world-class cancer care accessible closer to home. Precision radiotherapy is a critical pillar of modern oncology, and this advancement will significantly enhance the safety, effectiveness and patient-centricity of cancer treatment.”
Dr. Jatinder Arora, Senior Vice President – Hospital Operations, Livasa Hospitals, added, “This milestone reflects strong clinical leadership, meticulous planning and teamwork. With this advanced platform, our oncology teams are well equipped to deliver evidence-based, high-precision treatments with the highest standards of care.”
Radiotherapy remains a cornerstone of cancer management, with nearly 60-70% of cancer patients requiring radiation therapy at some stage of their treatment. With the addition of the advanced LINAC facility, Livasa Hospital Mohali further strengthens its integrated oncology services, offering comprehensive, technology-enabled cancer care under one roof.
