Mohali, January 28: A 36-year-old woman suffering from multiple fibroids in uterus has undergone robot assisted minimally invasive myomectomy and hysteroscopic procedure at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Mohali recently.
The patient had suffered two miscarriages in the past and was unable to conceive. Post procedure she is now healthy fit to conceive.
Giving information, Dr. Seema Wadhwa an associate director-obstetrics & gynecology at Max Hospital said during investigations, the woman ultrasound revealed multiple intramural, submucosal and subserosal fibroids scattered in the uterine musculature. The patient was unable to maintain her pregnancies and also conceive easily due to presence of multiple fibroids in her uterus.
The precise robotic dissection could remove 13 fibroids both large and small and could be retrieved from the keyhole incisions.
Dr. Seema further informed that with the robot it was possible to visualise and remove even the smallest fibroids, which were embedded deep in the myometrium.
Since the numbers of incisions given on the uterus were minimal, reconstruction of the uterus could be easily done. Tunneling technique was used to remove these soft tissue tumours, said Dr. Seema.
Robotic surgery has an added advantage in gynaecology surgeries due to precise dissection with minimal tissue injury and minimal to nil blood loss helping patients conceive. Armed with the latest technology, the Da Vinci Xi Robot, surgeons are able to perform complex surgeries using computer-guided, magnified, 3-D visualisation and the results are impressive, maintained Dr. Seema.
