Chandigarh:Under the "Kahaniyon Ke Rangmanch" series organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi, Chandigarh, a powerful and emotionally stirring patriotic play titled "Naagin Neera" was successfully staged at the Mini Theatre, Tagore Theatre Complex, on 2nd June 2025.
The play is based on the life of India’s first female spy, Neera Arya, who demonstrated extraordinary courage while serving in Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj. Her story of struggle, unwavering loyalty, and supreme sacrifice for the nation deeply moved the audience. The entire auditorium was left emotionally overwhelmed, and her tale of valor stirred a strong sense of patriotism in every heart present.
In a dramatic highlight, the play depicted how Neera Arya, in a display of unshakable national loyalty, killed her own husband—a British informant. The primary objective of the play was to pay homage to unsung heroines like Neera Arya, who laid down their lives for India's freedom.
Dr. Rita Dutt, in the role of Neera Arya, delivered a soul-stirring performance that brought tears to the eyes of the audience.
The play was written, adapted, and narrated by renowned radio broadcaster, TV host, and anchor, Sarvpriya Nirmohi, and directed by the seasoned theatre director Subhasis Neogi.
All the performers portrayed their roles with remarkable depth and authenticity. Each character came alive on stage, creating a powerful connection with the audience.
