Chandigarh:Music director Jamie who has directed music videos like Zindagi Bna di, Gediyaan, Rani Sundran, Main Shiv ka, Ohi Yaar, Peg 90Ml for T-series , Glister Media and various labels says Punjabi music goes beyond the currently projected image of gun culture depicted in music videos.
How did you get into music?
I was always inclined towards music. I did my BTech from Jalandhar and was doing good job in IT sector but from inside I was always a music professional. My first commercial break was given to me by T-series label company as a video director after which I moved towards music, changed my name from Vikas Jamwal to Jamie and shifted my base to Chandigarh. As a video director, I love all genres of music but my favourite is soulful melodies with good lyrics. I like folk, progressive music, Sufi and qawwalis too. I honestly try to work with good compositions and lyrics.
Do you think Punjabi music should erase the image of being aggressive and videos showing gun culture?
I sincerely feel that there is much more to Punjabi music than just aggression and videos showing gun culture. At present I think there is the same pattern of lyrics and compositions with a repetition even in the poetry.
What kind of music do younger Punjabi audiences relate to?
I feel they can relate to any good music but essentially they need to know their roots. Youth today has no clarity on our folk takes and the poetry around it, the history of Punjabi music, typical Punjabi music instruments and even our Punjabi literature

He says, my real name is Vikas Jamwal and from Jamwal name Jamie is taken. "Since I was born and brought up, from my childhood I wanted to grow up like this only . I started visiting wrestling grounds, and I was introduced to yoga. It helped me become fit and boost my confidence to pursue my profession. Thereafter, I directed few Punjabi and Hindi songs.
