Tandon Shares Leadership Insights with Young Audience, Says Wisdom Helps Shape Real Leaders

Chandigarh, September 2, 2026: Senior BJP leader Sanjay Tandon on Wednesday called upon young people to go beyond merely acquiring information and focus on developing wisdom through experience, deep study and interaction with senior and experienced people. Tandon also shared his views on On 'One Nation, One Election' (ONOE) and Special Intensive Revision (SIR).

Tandon was interacting with participants of ‘Netritva Sadhana – XVIII’, a six-day residential certificate course on socio-political leadership being organised by Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini – Institute for Inclusive Policy and Governance, in association with the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training & Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh.

Sharing his views on leadership, Tandon, also a National Council Member of BJP and Co-incharge of Himachal Pradesh BJP, said, “Today, information is available at the click of a button, but information alone does not make a leader. Wisdom comes from experience, from working with one’s own hands, studying subjects deeply and, importantly, listening to the experiences of elders and senior people,” he said.

Tandon shared anecdotes with the young audience which made  the interaction engaging for the attendees. 

On One Nation, One Election (ONOE), Tandon said simultaneous elections could help reduce the disruptions to development caused by frequent elections, besides lowering election expenditure and administrative burdens.

“The larger objective should be to take the nation forward. Frequent elections result in repeated enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, increased expenditure and the deployment of teachers and government employees for election duties. ONOE can help minimise these disruptions and allow governments to focus more consistently on development,” he said.

Tandon said the idea of simultaneous elections was not new and had been discussed as part of electoral reforms over the years. He acknowledged that implementing ONOE would be a lengthy constitutional and legislative process, requiring passage of the proposed legislation by Parliament and the requisite support from the states.

He said the BJP was working to create greater awareness about ONOE through discussions with intellectuals, teachers, professionals and people at the grassroots.

On Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Tandon said the exercise was aimed at ensuring accurate and credible electoral rolls by identifying duplicate entries, deceased voters and illegal entrants, while safeguarding the voting rights of genuine citizens.

Describing the approach towards illegal immigration as “Detect, Delete and Deport,” he said the process was important to protect the rights of genuine Indian citizens. He added that any complaints regarding eligible voters being left out should be duly examined by the Election Commission.

Tandon also highlighted India’s economic and technological transformation, pointing to the growth of digital payments, the expansion of Jan Dhan accounts and the direct transfer of pensions and other government benefits. He said the younger generation should understand the challenges faced by people in the past to better appreciate the changes taking place in the country.

The programme, being held till Sep 6  at NITTTR, Chandigarh, brings together around 25 young representatives from different states to foster socio-political excellence and develop future leaders.

The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Adv. Baljinder S. Thakur, Chairman,  Institute for Inclusive Policy and Governance. All participating students were presented with copies of ‘Sunrays’, a book authored by Sanjay Tandon and his wife Priya Tandon.
