Chandigarh: To create awareness on rising trends of osteoarthritis and recent advances in robotic knee resurfacing surgeries, PARK Hospital Mohali team including Dr Bhanu Pratap Singh director orthopedics and robotic joint replacement surgery, Dr Anil Kapoor Vashisth, Dr Aman Garg and Dr Vikramjit Baath the consultant orthopedics addressed a press conference here on Friday.
Dr Bhanu Pratap said,” We at PARK Hospital Mohali have successfully completed 1000 plus robotic knee replacements surgeries. Under Park Mahotsav, Park Hospital is offering free robotic technology to our patients till September 30, an initiative aimed to make advanced healthcare accessible to every section of society.
During the occasion, PARK Hospital also announced the launch of its state-of-the-art robotic arthroplasty center. The hospital is also only in the region equipped with a robo suite, robo eye and arm to deliver unprecedented precision, efficiency and superior patient outcomes. PARK Hospitals is North India’s biggest super specialty hospital network with 19 hospitals, 3500 beds, 800 ICU beds, 14 cath labs, 45 modular OTs and over 1000 doctors.
Dr Bhanu further said that the number of knee replacement surgeries is increasing day by day in India.
“If we look at the statistics, every year more than 2.5 million people undergo this procedure in India. Total knee replacement involves placing metal implants in the knee area to recreate the joint surface. The procedure is overwhelmingly successful in India and people with severe knee problems are advised to undergo this surgery to remain mobile. So, how to determine if you need knee replacement surgery or not. The doctor can advise you, but you are the one to make the final decision.”
Now with the recent advancement in technology in robotic surgery powered by 3D augmented reality AR, the entire knee replacement surgery is performed in 12-15 minutes. There is no requirement for blood transfusion, no sutures, no drains as surgery is performed from small cuts of 3.5 to 4 inches and patients can walk 4 hours after the surgery. Patients can climb stairs from the next day and full recovery happens within 7-10 days.
Ashish Chadha, group CEO-North, PARK Hospitals said, “All kinds of robotic joint resurfacing surgeries and sports injury surgeries are being routinely done at PARK Hospital Mohali. The hospital is now empaneled with ECHS, CGHS, ESI, Haryana and Himachal government and all major TPA, corporates.
