World Kidney Day

Panchkula, March,10:Alchemist Hospital Panchkula organized a ‘Patient connect program’ at a hotel in Panchkula, on Thursday to mark World Kidney Day. Around 100 kidney transplanted patients including their donors attended the program.
Gian Chand Gupta, Speaker Haryana Legislative Assembly, who was the chief guest of the program, honored kidney transplant donors with mementos. Among others Dr Mukta Kumar, Civil Surgeon Panchkula, Dr. Aruna Kumari and Dr. Raj Kumar Goyal, both members of the Kidney Transplant Authorization Committee were also present during the occasion.
On the occasion, patients with kidney transplants shared their successful stories, who got a new lease of life after the kidney transplant.
They also equally highlighted the support of their donors from their own families, who came forward to donate a kidney to save the lives of their loved ones.
Ravi, a 29 year old male , resident of Kurukshetra, who underwent kidney transplant at Alchemist Hospital in 2021 said that me and my family were at a crossroads where I had only two options, either Dialysis or kidney transplant .
“ Ravi was not tolerating the dialysis  well. His condition was depleting continuously. We were left with no hope anymore. But thanks to the counseling by Alchemist doctors, who guided us to go for kidney transplant at Alchemist Hospital which has state-of-art kidney transplant facilities,  we started looking for  suitable donors in our own family”.
“I was lucky as my wife Princi came forward to donate the kidney. Now I am standing among you and enjoying a normal life like others. And last year I was blessed with a baby girl ”, he maintained.
Another kidney transplanted patient Anju, resident of Yamunanagar, whose brother Pardeep, donated a kidney to her said that one should not lose hope.
“Patient need support from doctors and family to come out of this hopeless situation. With the help of right counseling and latest state-of-art medical facilities available one can lead a proper normal life after kidney transplant”, asserted patient Ravish whose brother Lalit donated his kidney.
Another donor Pooja, resident of Shamli , UP told, “ I never thought for seconds when it came to save my brother-in-law’s life by giving him my own kidney for transplant”.
“For me, his life and his family's happiness was far-far ahead than to think of myself donating a kidney”, said Pooja , who donated her kidney to save his brother-in-law’s life.
“I am lucky to have bhabhi like a mother, who not only saved my life but also saved my family from agony”, said Vikrant.
“One should not keep him or her in a remorseful situation for getting kidney ailments. It is treatable if you show courage and reach doctors on time for advice and the further course of action”, said another patient adding, “ my message to kidney patients is not to lose hope and go for the best recommended treatment as soon as possible”.
Dr Neeraj Goyal Senior Consultant Urology and Kidney Transplant Surgeon at Alchemist Hospital said,  “As per rough estimates, kidney failure  cases have doubled in the last decade and are rapidly rising. Kidney failure or end stage kidney disease is a condition in which both kidneys are permanently damaged and can no longer perform their primary function of filtering toxins, wastes and extra fluids from the body.”
Dr. Rajiv Goyal, Senior Consultant Urology and Kidney Transplant Surgeon, at Alchemist Hospital said that after kidney failure a patient has to live on dialysis or can opt for kidney transplant. Kidney transplant offers several advantages and is always the best option for suitable patients, he remarked.
“The quality of life is unmatched after a successful transplant and offers cure from kidney failure, following transplant a person can live an active, healthy and independent life”, said Dr SK Sharma, Head of the Department of Renal Sciences at Alchemist Hospital.
Dr. Charanjit Lal, Senior Consultant Nephrology at Alchemist Hospital said that we have done many swap  transplants, where two families with different blood groups come together and  exchange their donors ,with best outcomes.  Swap transplant  is now normal at Alchemist with almost 3-4 transplants being done monthly now said Dr. Ramesh Kumar, Senior Consultant Nephrology at Alchemist Hospital.
