Special NSS Camp concludes at Dev Samaj College for Women

Chandigarh, March 7, 2023: A seven-day Special NSS Camp  has concluded  at Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector- 45B, Chandigarh. 
The Camp included sessions on physical, mental and spiritual well-being of the volunteers. A series of sessions on fitness, yoga, financial management, importance of millets, and cleanliness were conducted. Experts from different walks of life were invited as resource persons to interact with volunteers and brief them with glimpses from their life and experiences.
A Blood Donation Camp in association with the Red Ribbon Club of the college and PGI, Chandigarh, was also organized as part of the camp activities in which students, staff and volunteers enthusiastically participated. The Blood Donation Camp was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr Kanwarjeet Singh, Senior Deputy Mayor, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh. Dr Agnese Dhillon, Secretary, Dev Samaj College Managing Committee and Mr Sunil Kumar, Assistant Project Director, Chandigarh State AIDS Society, were the Guests of Honour. 44 units of blood was collected.The day witnessed a highly successful event in the spirit of NSS, “Not Me But You”. 44 Units of blood were donated by the volunteers, and a poster display activity was organised to create awareness.

Dr. Nemi Chand Golia, State Liaison Officer (NSS), Chandigarh, was the Chief Guest and Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon, Secretary DSCW was the Guest of Honour at the Valedictory Function. Dr Nemi Chand Golia, in his address stressed on the importance of serving humanity and the focus to translate our thoughts of benevolence into tangible goals. He elaborated on a new initiative 'Helping Hand' started by him, under which about 80 homes have been identified in Chandigarh where lonely aged persons live, and volunteers are sent to their homes to help them in their chores and talk to them. He emphasized the need to bring in such initiatives for more practical benefits of the society.

He was felicitated with memorabilia by the Guest of Honour, Dr. (Mrs.) Agnese Dhillon. Dr Dhillon spoke at length about the importance of taking up NSS by students as well as the staff. 

She apprised students of how NSS camps can bring out change in the society as it focuses on the upliftment of others and the betterment of society.

She emphasized the need for self-discipline in a student's life, and also discussed anecdotes from the exemplary lives of Dr. P V Kanal and Dr. S P Kanal, who lived all their lives for the upliftment of others treading the path shown by philosophy of the Dev Samaj. Dr Meena Chopra, Principal, thanked the guests and congratulated the Programme Officers, Dr Ila Rathor and Dr Lovleen Kaur Sohi for the successful completion of the camp.
