First India based Ireland cricket team member Simranjit Singh honing skills of alma mater's trainees

Mohali, Jan 5, 2022,“Mohali's Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sec 71 and its cricket coach have played a crucial part in my early years of training, which formed a strong base for my cricketing career,” said Indian origin Ireland cricketer Simranjit Singh aka Simi Singh. Simi Singh is the first ever cricketer to score an ODI century batting at eighth position or lower and who was one of the players in the ICC team of the year 2021. Simi is in tricity these days and is keeping busy training and motivating the young cricket trainees  of Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sector 71, Mohali's Cricket Academy. 

Singh himself was a student at Paragon Senior Secondary School and had started his early training with coach Sukhwider Tinku- a well known name in tricity in the area of cricket coaching. Simi had quit cricket in India when he was not considered for U-19 Punjab state team and decided to move to Ireland in 2005 in order to pursue his cricketing dreams. The 35-year-old cricketer made history in 2021 with 100 not out batting at eighth position along with being in the top 5 world’s best economy bowlers  in T20 cricket.

 "I am really happy that Simi has not just made  the school and its cricket academy proud but has also brought the name of Chandigarh tricity on the International cricketing map, " said Iqbal Singh Shergill, Director, Paragon Senior Secondary School, Sector 71, Mohali.

Simi Singh is excited about  giving back all his experience and skills to the student trainees of his alma mater. Simranjit  said, “Coach Sukhwinder put all his sweat and blood into the grooming of my skills.”  He further added that the school and the coach supported him through the ups and downs he witnessed during his days of struggle to become someone to be reckoned with in the world of International cricket. 

Coach Sukhwinder said , “The school has supported Simi to a great extent. Providing quality training to students would not have been possible if the school authorities had not imposed faith in me and my capabilities."
