Panchkula, December 5, 2022: Some brilliant swings, shots and puts were witnessed during the 2nd Edition of Gyan Chand Luthra (GCL) Cup 2022 held at Panchkula Golf Club here. While Balbir Khokha won the tournament Ranjit Singh Sidhu was adjudged the runner-up. In a show of sheer talent and skill Aman Baika hit four birdies, which means playing one stroke less than par, while playing 13 holes and Tript Kaur hit 7 pars.
A talented caddy Ankit Kumar was also adopted for training by The Narrators Performing Arts Society under who's aegis the tournament was organised in collaboration with Griffith College , Ireland. The organizers of the event also gave a cheque of Rs 11000 to Ankit for meeting his immediate golfing needs.
Gyan Chand Luthra Golf Cup was initiated by husband-wife duo Deepak Luthra and Nisha Luthra who are both Co-Founders of The Narrators , the 1st edition of the tournament was held in the year 2021. The tournament has been conceptualized with the noble intention of keeping the memory of Sh. Gyan Chand Luthra who was Deepak's father and to promote golf amongst the needy strata of society and youngsters.
Deepak Luthra said, “The motive of the tournament is to promote golf through golfers and make the sport reach masses, and not just be limited to the classes. The gesture to help talented caddies is also part of this bigger plan to make the sport accessible to all those desirous of playing it. As many as 40 golfers participated in this event as compared to 14 in the 1st Edition. Next time we will ensure at least 100 golfers participate in the tournament.”
Nisha Luthra added, "It is said that Golf is the game of the rich but with this kind of initiative people who are generally very skillful with the game but need financial support are also benefited. Keeping this in mind the GCL cup carries the ambition to bring the game of golf within reach of the talented players who do not have resources to carry on with the sport."
The tournament was announced open, by Vivek Atray, a former IAS officer and motivational speaker. Trophies were also given to the winner and runner -up. What's more, Ravjot Kaur, a 15-year old golfer, was felicitated for becoming a professional golfer. She was adjudged the Rising Star (Qualified Professional Golfer).
The tournament was played over 13 holes in the lush green Panchkula Golf Course. The event also witnessed the presence of Kevin Geoghegan, Director, Griffith College, Ireland.
The icing on the cake was that the Golfers were awarded by Vijay Vardhan, former Chief Secretary, Haryana and Chief Information Commissioner, Haryana. Vardhan said we need more organizations like Griffith college, Ireland and The Narrators Performing Arts Society, who would like to give back to society with their various innovative initiatives.He congratulated all the golfers and the upcoming young Ravjot for playing a brilliant game at such a young age.
