Chandigarh:The Post Graduate Department of Economics of Goswami Ganesh Dutta Sanatan Dharma College Chandigarh organized a webinar on the “Impact of COVID-19 Pandemic on Indian Economy and the Road Ahead” on

September 27, 2021. Prof. Arun Kumar, Malcolm Adisesheah, Chair Professor in Institute of Social Science was the key note speaker. The webinar was presided over by Professor Arun Kumar Grover, former Vice Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. In his presidential address Prof. Arun Grover went down the memory lane and shared how the key note speaker Prof. Arun and himself were not only contemporaries but were batch mates at Senior Secondary level way back in 1967 and how the cognition and expertise of Prof Arun Kumar is a great gain for not only all the participants of the webinar but his intellect is a boon for Indian scholars and Indian Economists. However, the key note speaker Prof Arun Kumar who also has retired as a Professor of Economics from the prestigious Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Delhi discussed in detail the greatest crisis which is a threat to the entire Indian economy and the Indian society as well. This pandemic has resulted in an unprecedented economic collapse and has had a major social as well as political impact and such impacts will be long lasting. 

After the webinar an expansive question answer session was held amongst the students and Prof Arun very gracefully resolved the queries and questions of the younger generation. He insisted that there is a need to relook at the development paradigm. Hence, disparities in various fields need to be checked to bring about a genuine reform. The webinar was a huge success as more than 1000 participants attended the webinar. The webinar was also attended by the students and faculty members of various colleges of the tri-city. The webinar concluded on the note that even though the lockdowns have stalled the economy but the public as well as the private sector has an important role to play to bring in the reforms not only in the economic scenario of Indian economy but also the Global economy as well.
